As we age, the loss of collagen and elastin can be seen externally, with noticeable changes in skin texture, facial lines and skin laxity – particularly around the eyes, mouth and jowl areas. Bio-Remodelling treatments aim to address these issues.
The key ingredient in Bio-Remodelling treatments mimics a naturally occurring complex sugar that is found in the body. It binds with water to support your skin and increase volume.
Bio-Remodelling products differ from traditional volumising products, which are designed to remodel aged and sagging skin. Instead, these products provide prolonged stimulation of collagen and elastin, possibly leading to visible skin changes and increased skin firmness.
Bio-Remodelling products can be placed superficially under the skin to target and reduce poor skin texture, fine lines and skin irregularities.
Product Types
Polynucleotide-Based Treatments
Polynucleotides are derived from purified salmon DNA and are designed to support hydration, cellular repair processes and fibroblast activity (the cells involved in collagen and elastin production).
Poly-L-Lactcice Acid-Based Treatments (PLLA)
PLLA is the same type of material that is used in some dissolvable stitches. PLLA is broken down into tiny particles and introduced into the deeper layers of the face and other areas of the body. These particles remain in these deeper layers while triggering the body’s natural healing response. Over the following weeks and months, new collagen will start to form around the PLLA particles. As these particles are biodegradable, they will eventually break down and be reabsorbed.
The Bio-Remodelling Treatment
A treatment session takes approximately one hour and involves placing small aliquots of product just below the skin’s surface.
Before the treatment, all individuals must have a comprehensive face-to-face consultation. This will involve an assessment of the face and individual areas of concern, a medical review, discussion of the treatment, potential risks and complications, after-care and all costs. This communication helps assure you can make an informed decision.
Number of Treatments
For optimal results, we recommend three treatments spaced monthly. However, some patients are satisfied with the results of a single treatment and may decide to return several months later for another.
As with most skin treatments, the results of Bio-Remodelling can vary depending on your skin condition, overall health and lifestyle.
How Long Will the Results Last?
While results vary between individuals, patients usually notice immediate changes in the treated area after just one session. You will continue to see a change in your skin over the ensuing months and the results from a single treatment can last up to six months.
To achieve optimal longevity of results, you must continue with the recommended three treatments.
Combining Bio-Remodelling with Other Treatments
Bio-Remodelling can be incorporated with other treatments, such as laser skin rejuvenation or other light therapy treatments. Your treating cosmetic nurse will tailor a unique treatment plan for you during your initial consultation.
Treatment Comfort
Bio-Remodelling treatments are usually well tolerated. To ensure your treatment is as comfortable as possible, we will apply a topical anaesthetic to the treatment areas, allowing time for it to take effect before commencing.
Post-Procedure Care
Following treatment, you’ll be given verbal and written after-care instructions.
After your treatment, the following side effects are common but should resolve with time:
- Redness
- Bruising
- Swelling
- Puncture Marks
- Itching
- Tightness
- Hardness
- Tenderness
- Asymmetry
To help minimise or prevent bruising, we recommend the following activities:
- Apply a cold compress to the treated area immediately afterwards for at least 15 minutes.
- Apply a cold pack regularly for the first 24 to 48 hours. Consider a 10-minute cycle with at least five minutes off.
- Sleep with your head elevated for the first night.
- Avoid vigorous exercise for the first 24 hours, as it can raise blood pressure and worsen bruising.
- Avoid extreme heat for the first 24 hours or until bruising has resolved.
- Apply topical creams that may help with bruising, such as arnica or vitamin K. Apply them liberally to the affected area three to four times a day.
If you experience an inflammatory reaction or any side effects, please get in touch with the clinic immediately. A late-onset inflammatory response may occur at least two months after injection. If necessary, additional treatments, medications and/or surgery may be necessary.
If your concerns occur after hours, please attend your local medical centre or emergency department.
