MediLUX LED technology uses 1,500 powerful LEDs in blue, green, yellow, red and near-infrared. Each lightwave length targets specific skin concerns, including:
- acne: reducing and preventing acne-causing bacteria and associated acne breakouts
- spots: removing age spots, sunspots and discolouration
- redness: improving skin redness conditions such as rosacea
- signs of ageing: stimulating collagen and elastin to reduce superficial wrinkles, neck lines and other signs of ageing.
Post-Operative Wound Healing
At Bella Plastic Surgery, we use the MediLUX LED in the treatment and management of post-operative wound healing. It increases blood circulation and lymphatic drainage and stimulates collagen production, which supports wound healing and improves scar formation.
What is Red Light?
Red light is one of the most widely used wavelengths in the electromagnetic spectrum. With a wavelength of 633 nanometres, it passes through the outer layer of skin (the epidermis) to reach the deeper layer of skin (the dermis).
The red light stimulates fibroblasts in the dermis, the specialised cells that produce collagen in the skin. Collagen is a protein that provides essential structure to the skin, giving it the strength to heal while supporting skin firmness.
Inside every cell of the body are mitochondria, known as the powerhouse of the cell. Mitochondria provide cells with the energy to perform all necessary functions. They convert oxygen into energy molecules called ATP (adenosine triphosphate), which provide energy for fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin.
LED light enhances cellular ATP production, increasing cellular energy and prompting fibroblasts to produce more collagen, helping firm, tighten, heal and improve the overall appearance of the skin.
What Is Near-Infrared Light?
Near-infrared light works similarly to 633nm red light. However, near infrared has a longer wavelength of 830 nm. This provides the deeper layers of the skin and tissues with various therapeutic benefits.
When used in a clinical setting, near-infrared light stimulates fibroblast cells, promoting the production of new collagen and elastin and rejuvenates fatigued cells. When used post-operatively, near-infrared light stimulates wound healing and blood flow in the subcutaneous layer of the skin, reducing inflammation of the skin and underlying tissues.
Suitable for All Skin Types
MediLUX LED treatments are suitable for all skin types. Before commencing treatment, patients must have an initial consultation, during which our treating cosmetic nurse will discuss a treatment plan involving MediLUX LED (either on its own or in conjunction with other therapies) tailored to your individual skin concerns.
