What Causes the Skin of Our Hands to Change?
Before treating hands, it’s vital to understand what has caused our skin to change. Numerous factors influence changes in the condition and appearance of the skin on our hands, including:
- natural ageing processes
- UV exposure and environmental damage
- pigmentation changes within the skin
- reduced collagen and skin elasticity
- lifestyle factors such as smoking or repeated sun exposure
Treatments For Hand Rejuvenation
Treatment for Hand Rejuvenation is determined by the concerns present and the condition of the skin. After assessment, your cosmetic nurse may recommend a single treatment or a combination of treatments to address concerns such as uneven skin texture, pigmentation, or general skin changes.
Treatment options can include:
- Laser Skin Rejuvenation
- Skin Needling
- Skin Booster Treatments
Laser Skin Rejuvenation
We may recommend Laser treatment when there is pigmentation, uneven skin tone or general skin changes on the hands. Laser works by delivering controlled energy into the skin where pigment and collagen structures are present. The laser targets specific components within the skin while minimising the impact on surrounding tissues.
When the laser interacts with skin pigment, the particles can gradually break down and be cleared by the body’s natural processes. Laser can also simultaneously stimulate the skin’s natural repair processes, thereby supporting collagen activity.
Skin Needling
We may recommend Skin Needling when there are concerns, such as fine lines or uneven skin texture, on the hands. This treatment involves creating controlled micro-channels within the skin. These micro-channels trigger the skin’s natural healing response, which encourages collagen production and other structural elements of the skin to be produced.
The skin responds progressively to this healing process, so we often recommend a series of Skin Needling sessions.
Skin Boosters
We may suggest a series of Skin Booster treatments when the hands show signs of fine lines, dehydration or thinning. Skin Boosters contain polynucleotides and other compounds used in aesthetic medicine to support the skin’s natural repair processes and support skin quality. An individual assessment is required before determining whether this treatment may be suitable.
Comfort During Treatment
The level of discomfort during Hand Rejuvenation treatment depends on the treatment received and the individual’s response. If required, we can apply topical numbing cream to the area, allowing time to take effect before treatment. We’ll discuss comfort measures with you before your procedure.
Downtime & Recovery After Treatment
Your recovery and any downtime required will depend on the procedure you’ve undergone and whether you’ve had multiple treatments in a single session. Some procedures require minimal downtime, while others may result in temporary redness, swelling or mild bruising in the treated areas.
Following your treatment, your cosmetic nurse will outline your recovery process and all after-care instructions. These instructions will also be given to you in writing.
Treatment Costs
Treatment for Hand Rejuvenation is individualised, with costs depending on the type of treatment you receive, the treatment area and whether a series of treatments has been recommended.
Before commencing Hand Rejuvenation treatment, individuals must book an initial consultation and assessment. After assessing your hands, you will receive a treatment plan outlining all recommended treatments and their associated costs, so you can make an informed decision before proceeding.
Potential Risks & Side-Effects
All nonsurgical cosmetic procedures carry potential risks and side effects. These include swelling, bruising, redness, infection, delayed healing, temporary changes in skin pigmentation and in rare cases, scarring.
Individual healing responses vary and outcomes cannot be guaranteed. All potential risks will be discussed with you during your consultation. For more information, please see our Potential Risks and Complications page.
