Fat Grafting
Breast Augmentation Mammoplasty

What is a fat grafting breast augmentation mammoplasty?

A fat grafting breast augmentation is a type of breast augmentation mammoplasty procedure involving the removal of fat via liposuction from other areas of the body to be injected into the breasts. This breast augmentation mammoplasty option is best suited for women only wanting a slight increase in breast size or who wish to avoid the potential risks associated with breast implants. Fat is taken from unwanted areas of the patient, such as the thighs, abdomen, and hips, via liposuction and purified before being placed across various planes within the skin and breast tissue.

The benefits of a fat grafting breast augmentation mammoplasty include:

  • An increase in breast volume without the use of implants, avoiding the potential problems associated with implants
  • Address contour abnormalities in the breast caused by cancer or trauma
  • Can help to smooth the breast contours in individuals with breast implants
  • Help achieve breast symmetry
  • Help correct implant wrinkling or rippling
  • Removes fat from unwanted areas around the body
  • Fewer risks and a shorter recovery period compared to traditional breast augmentation mammoplasty (although some risks are still present)

The procedure is usually performed as day surgery and requires a general or local anaesthetic. Scarring is very minimal compared to traditional breast augmentation mammoplasty procedures, but nevertheless, you may expect to have some scarring. Patients will need to have an abundance of unwanted fat that can be removed for transplantation to increase breast size. The recovery period varies from person to person, based on the extent of your procedure, along with health and lifestyle factors. Following the aftercare instructions as advised by Plastic Surgeon Dr Matthew Starr will be crucial in your recovery.

Note that every procedure is accompanied by risks, such as the risk of infection, poor scarring, bleeding, and unwanted results. The results will vary depending on the patient’s requirements and natural features.
