Facial Volume Loss Treatment

Dermal fillers are a non-surgical treatment designed to restore lost volume, smooth fine lines, and enhance facial contours.

What Are Dermal Fillers?

This treatment contains hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in the body, which helps retain moisture and support skin structure.

As part of the natural ageing process, the skin gradually loses collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid, leading to volume loss, skin laxity, and the development of deeper lines and wrinkles. Other factors, such as sun exposure, genetics, and lifestyle choices, may also contribute to these changes.

Dermal fillers may address:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Volume loss in the cheeks or temples
  • Deep folds, such as nasolabial folds and marionette lines
  • Thin or asymmetrical lips
  • Scarring or irregular skin contours

What to Expect from Treatment

Treatment with fillers involves Dr Starr performing a series of small injections into the targeted areas. While results may be visible immediately, it can take a few weeks for the product to fully integrate into the skin. The longevity of dermal fillers varies between individuals and depends on factors such as metabolism, the type of filler used, and the area treated. Filler treatments generally last anywhere from 12–24 months, after which a consultation to discuss repeat treatment may be considered.

Consultation Process

Before undergoing treatment, a consultation with Dr Matthew Starr is required. During this appointment, Dr Starr will assess your medical history, discuss your treatment goals, and determine whether dermal fillers are suitable for you. A personalised treatment plan will be developed, and any potential risks or side effects will be explained in detail. Patients are encouraged to ask questions and ensure they have a thorough understanding of the treatment before proceeding.

Recovery and Aftercare

  • Mild swelling, redness, or bruising may occur following treatment but typically resolves within a few days
  • Patients should avoid vigorous exercise for 48 hours after treatment
  • Rubbing or massaging the treated areas should be avoided to prevent displacement of the filler

Potential Risks and Side Effects

All medical procedures carry some level of risk. Possible side effects may include:

  • Temporary swelling, redness, or bruising
  • Bleeding or haematoma at the injection site
  • Uneven or undesired aesthetic results
  • In rare cases, more serious complications such as infection, vascular occlusion, or vision-related issues may occur

Following post-treatment care instructions and attending follow-up appointments can help reduce the risk of complications.

Important Considerations

  • All cosmetic injectable treatments require a consultation with a qualified medical professional
  • Results may vary between individuals, and dermal fillers do not provide permanent results
  • As per AHPRA guidelines, specific product names cannot be mentioned in advertising materials
