Hair Loss Treatment Perth
Often mainly associated with men, hair loss is in fact an incredibly common condition for both men and women. There are a number of possible causes for hair loss, although the main cause is Androgenetic Alopecia (AGA), more commonly known simply as Alopecia or pattern hair loss. AGA Is caused by increased dihytrotestosterone (DHT) levels due to hereditary factors. More common amongst Caucasian people, pattern hair loss tends to increase with age and and many as 30% of men suffer to some extent by the time they are 30. As many as half of men will be affected by the age of 50, and by the age of 70 that raises to about 80% of men. In females, approximately 13% of premenopausal women will experience some hair loss. Post menopause, the increase is dramatic, and as many as 70% of women over the age of 65 will shows signs of thinning and hair loss. Without the need for surgery, or a regular intake of pharmaceutical drugs, PRP for hair loss has proven results.
How Does PRP for Hair Loss Work?
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a natural treatment – it uses the bioactive proteins and concentrated blood platelets to stimulate hair follicles, thereby encouraging hair regrowth. By stimulating the hair follicles, PRP hair loss treatment leads to both increased hair growth as well as thicker and healthier hair. The fist stage is for the PRP to be extracted from your blood, before being re-injected to the treatment area to stimulate regrowth.
Who is Suitable for PRP for Hair Loss?
If you are a healthy male or female and concerned about hair loss, thinning or shedding, then it is very likely that you are suitable for this treatment. It also suitable for people who are looking for a solution to hair loss without undergoing a full surgical hair transplant. As a natural treatment, using only the bioactive proteins and blood platelets already found in your body, PRP makes an ideal choice for people who don’t’ want to rely on a daily drug treatment. There are very few side effects to PRP and it is suitable for virtually everyone who isn’t suffering from a significant pre-existing condition. Academy Face and Body use Emcyte PurePRP II. This is the most effective PRP extraction method that there is, leading to the best results.
What results can I expect?
Between two and three months from your initial treatment, most patients will observe a noticeable difference. You’ll need a series of two or three treatments along with an annual top up session to secure the best results. Of course, results will be different for everybody, and this may also be largely due to how far through the hair loss cycle a patient is when they undergo treatment:
- Angen Phase – is the phase where there is active regrowth of the hair follicles.
- Catagen Phase – is the end of active growth and also known as the regressing phase.
- Telogen Phase – the hair follicle is now dead; this is the resting phase.
Clinical studies have shown that the PRP provides good results for hair rejuvenation by prolonging the Anagen Phase. Both increased hair count and improved hair thickness have been observed.
To further enhance the benefits of PRP, we often recommend that patients take Finasteride – an oral blocker of DHT conversion (which can be responsible for hair loss) or Minoxidil in combination to further enhance the benefits of your treatment.
Your PRP Experience
Firstly, you’ll have a consultation with either one of our cosmetic nurses or doctors. This is the chance for you to discuss your concerns and desired outcomes. It’s important that you ask any questions that you may have about your treatment during this consultation. During this meeting, our medical experts will put together an appropriate treatment plan for you.
Your treatment will begin with the extraction, which put simply means taking some blood. Using a medical device, anti-inflammatory white blood cells, plasma, platelets and proteins are harvested and separated. Creating PurePRP II takes around 20 minutes.
After the creation of the PurePRP II, the highly concentrated PRP is injected. This is done using hand syringes, in about a one centimeter grid pattern. For most patients, around 7 – 8ml of PRP is injected.
Our experienced injectors at Academy Face and Body are highly skilled and will make this process as comfortable as is possible. In addition, you may also use numbing cream during the process. It’s normal to experience some swelling and redness to the scalp, which should settle down within 24 – 48 hours.
If after two days, swelling or irritation hasn’t subsided, please contact us. Some patients also experience a mild headache. You’ll be given detailed post treatment instructions to follow.
How long for PRP for hair loss last?
Most patients will notice obvious signs of hair regrowth and thickening in about four to six weeks following their treatment, bearing in mind that either two or three treatments will be required. To ensure the longevity of your results, we recommend a top up treatment every year, although this does depend upon the individual and some patients may go for two years between top-up treatment sessions.
Is PRP for Hair Loss for Me?
PRP Is a natural treatment. This means there’s no chance of an allergic reaction and therefore it’s a treatment that is suitable for just about everyone who wants to address hair loss in a non-surgical manner. However, there are some people for whom this treatment may not be suitable. People in this group include those with pre-existing conditions such as cancer, chronic skin disease, chronic liver disease, platelet dysfunction syndromes hypofibrinogenemia and thrombocytopenia or those with a history of heavy drug and alcohol use. The first step is to arrange your initial consultation, as our experts will establish your suitability for treatment during this meeting and suggest alternative options, if required.
